Testa di Moro Donna with seventeenth century decoration, cobalt blue and orange yellow.

Height 37 cm.

The traditional ceramic vases in the shape of a dark brown's head are so famous in Sicily that they have become, over time, one of the representative symbols of the island. Traditionally, Moor's Heads adorn the balconies of homes and often appear as a decorative element in Sicilian living rooms. However, the singular shape of the Moor's Heads (or "graste" in Sicilian dialect) derives from a dark legend set in Palermo, a legend that not everyone knows.
